The Month in Gaming: March 2012

Just like last month, my gaming for the month of March spanned several titles across various platforms.   Final Fantasy III First and foremost was continuing the Final Fantasy goal for the month, which saw me play Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS. Right from the outset, I noticed how difficult the game was.   Mass Effect 2 Another game I had mentioned in last month's wrap-up was the Mass Effect series. I had been preparing for the imminent arrival of Mass Effect 3 and

Review: Final Fantasy III

Final Fantasy III
First and foremost was continuing the Final Fantasy goal for the month, which saw me play Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS. Right from the outset, I noticed how difficult the game was. In the previous two games, I had been able to literally just hold down the A button during random battles, which would automatically select Attack and my characters could kill the enemies they faced with no problem. I especially like to stay ahead of the difficulty as it increases in RPGs, so that my characters

Review: Final Fantasy II

Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy II started up much like its predecessor, with an opening cutscene that led to a title screen to kick things off. The game itself differed a lot, however. First of all, the characters came with their own names already (Firion, Maria, and Guy). Beyond that, the roles they would play were totally up to me, the player. Maria came with a Bow and was put in the "back row" of the party, meaning she would take less damage there. Basically, she was relegated to support status -- or at least

“Weird Al” Yankovic – Alpocalypse Album Review

"Weird Al" Yankovic Alpocalypse Released: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 Initial Thoughts: I've been a fan of Weird Al since I first heard "Smells Like Nirvana" when I was a kid. Since then, he's had several albums come out, each with their own unique parodies of popular music from varying styles (check out "The Essential Weird Al Collection for a compilation of the most popular ones). This particular album has made waves because it contains a Lady Gaga parody of "Born This Way" that almost never

Review: Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy
Kicking off the massive undertaking was the original itself. Loading it up on the PlayStation Portable, I was treated to an opening cutscene showing off graphics that I would not see again for the duration of the game. Seriously, if the game is being re-released, and cutscene graphics are being made, yeah it's cool to be at the start and all, but you really only watch it once or twice and then you hit a button to bypass it to get to the load screen to start playing. Why not have some cutscenes in

Demo Impressions: Final Fantasy XIII-2

For me, Final Fantasy XIII was the single worst game in the entire series. I hated it and really just completed it for the sake of doing so. However, for some reason there is a sequel coming out and it's actually getting better reviews than its predecessor -- although that doesn't seem too terribly difficult -- but enough with the FFXIII hate. How's its sequel?
